Webinar Description
"It's not you versus your partner; it's you and your partner as a team versus the pain."
Painful intercourse can occur for reasons that range from structural problems to psychological concerns. Many women have painful intercourse at some point in their lives. The impact of female genital pain on the partner can be overwhelming and there is a strong need to renegotiate intimacy when painful sex occurs in a relationship.
This content represents a relatively new area of focus within the field of sex therapy, specifically in understanding the partner's experience. While there is considerable literature and support available for women experiencing pain during sexual intercourse, there has been limited research on the importance of support for their partners and the impact that a lack of support can have on the relationship. Through fieldwork with male partners of women suffering from vaginal pain during intercourse, successful support group's have been established. Groups provides a nonjudgmental environment for partners to express themselves and share experiences with others facing similar challenges.
