Working with Complex Trauma: The Heart of Journeying With Our Clients

The standard three-phase trauma treatment model - safety and stabilization, trauma processing, and integration - implies a linear progression that clinicians outgrow as treatment advances. This workshop challenges that assumption, proposing instead that safety and stabilization are not a discrete opening phase but an ongoing, recursive process that continues throughout the life of treatment. Drawing on relational (Schore, Fosha), polyvagal (Stephen Porges, Deb Dana), and ego-state/parts frameworks, participants will examine safety as it operates on multiple simultaneous levels: relational safety within the therapeutic dyad, nervous-system safety in the body, negotiated safety between internal parts, and affect tolerance as a capacity clients either already have or develop.
