Diagnosing Anxiety, Substance use, and Trauma-Related Disorders in DSM-5-TR

In this webinar, we will look at different types of Anxiety Disorders, such as Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Agoraphobia, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Selective Mutism, and Specific Phobias. We will also cover Substance Use Disorders like Alcohol Use Disorder and Gambling Addiction Disorder, as well as Trauma and Stress Disorders, including PTSD, Adjustment Disorders, Reactive Attachment Disorder, and Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder.

We will use the documentation formula introduced in DSM 5 to diagnose these conditions. Throughout the webinar, we will engage in interactive discussions with the audience. Class 2

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST

What is All the Rage About: Understanding and Treating Misophonia

Misophonia is a condition characterized by experiencing anger in response to perceiving specific stimuli, most often sounds related to eating and/or repetitive visual movements. While the literature is scarce at the moment, current findings indicate a strong psychological component to the etiology of the condition. It is postulated that a combination of perfectionistic traits in classical and operant conditioning gives rise to misophonic symptoms. Emanating from this understanding, an acceptance-based cognitive-behavioral intervention called experiential acceptance, and sound empathy (EASE) is outlined. A case study will be presented to illustrate the delivery of EASE.

The focus of this talk will be on reviewing some of the major findings in the literature on misophonia; presenting a model on the development and maintenance of misophonia; and conclude with a treatment for misophonia called Experiential Acceptance and Sound Empathy (EASE).

(Trainer - Ezra Cowan holds a doctorate in psychology from Kean University in Union, NJ. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy in New York City, NY where is specializes in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder, perfectionism, and misophonia.)
