Class 1
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM EST
From Arrest to Release: Where Clinical Practice Intersects
Join us for a compelling webinar that delves into the journey of an individual from the point of arrest to their eventual release, shedding light on the complex processes involved in the penal and court systems. Throughout this trajectory, various opportunities arise for clinicians to provide vital services to the detained person, influenced by the biases inherent in the agencies they serve.
Throughout the session, we will explore essential legal terms and concepts relevant to the criminal justice context, as well as the critical roles of assessments, testimony, and treatment planning in this unique setting. Jane Tambree’, LCSW-C, will guide participants through these topics, offering valuable insights drawn from her work with marginalized and underserved populations, many of whom have experienced early trauma. This training will look at the utilization of self in the interview process, recognizing the importance of identifying and managing transference and countertransference dynamics. Jane will share an insightful essay that underscores the significance of these aspects in working with detainees, inmates, and clients in jails, prisons, maximum security forensic hospitals, and non-profit agencies.
(Trainer - Jane Tambree' LCSW-C has been a social worker for 38 years. She specializes in working with marginalized and underserved people. An overriding concern for most of her clients has been early trauma. Her clients can be found in jails, prisons, maximum security forensic hospitals and non-profit agencies. The focus of care has varied from jail diversion to treatment to advocacy. She identifies as a psychiatric and forensic social worker and has incredible gratitude to those who allowed her to join them on their respective paths. She is the author of the book “hidden riot: the lives of multiple personalities a compilation of writings".)

Treating the Trauma of Moral Injury
Moral Injury is an emerging concept in the field of trauma response that occurs when a person perpetrates or witnesses actions that violate their core beliefs, or is betrayed by a leader or trusted authority. Research has centered around the impact on soldiers, but new research is beginning to look at the impact of moral injury on healthcare workers and other public sector fields. This workshop will examine the history of moral injury beginning in the dark days of the Holocaust through the emerging research that is being published about COVID-19. Clinicians will learn about how to identify and treat moral injury, and strategies to protect themselves from the harm of moral injury.
(Trainer - Menachem Hojda is driven by the power of belonging. He shares this passion with students as an Adjunct Professor at Touro University Graduate School of Social Work and Field Instructor at University of Michigan School of Social Work. He works with individuals searching for belonging and healing from injuries to their sense of belonging as a Clinical Supervisor at Fairsky Therapy in Michigan, and advocates for a community where everyone can belong as a trainer for Oakland Community Health Network.)
