Class 1

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM EST

I Hurt Too Much: ADHD and Rejection Sensitivity in Girls and Women

In this workshop, participants will learn to better identify and support female clients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) presenting with symptoms of Rejection Sensitivity (RS). The workshop will begin with an overview of ADHD in girls and women, including the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) criteria of ADHD, recent scholarship, and clinical observations. Although more research is needed to understand the mechanism and prevalence of RS, in clinical practice identifying and understanding how females with ADHD may feel and act differently in interpersonal relationships can prove very powerful and meaningful.

By providing a developmental overview of how ADHD and RS may present during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, this workshop is intended to help with identifying and supporting female clients who are struggling with emotional dysregulation and interpersonal relationships through the lifespan. A case vignette will illustrate presentation of ADHD with RS and different interventions to consider when working with the young woman navigating demands of school, family, and friends, as well as later in treatment once in the workforce and dating. There will be concrete recommendations on making appropriate referrals and how to support female clients to thrive at home, school, and the workplace.

Class 2

11:45 AM - 1:15 PM EST

Mastering Ethical Decision-Making: Essential Frameworks for Social Workers

In this workshop participants will have an opportunity to review the NASW Code of Ethics (COE) and survey frameworks for decision making when an ethical dilemma presents itself. In the first section, the workshop will include a historical overview of the COE’s evolution and define terms such as values and ethics. A review of the COE will explore the structure and specific sections of  ethical conduct regarding responsibilities to clients, colleagues, practice setting, as professionals and to broader society.

The second section of the workshop will pivot to understanding ethical dilemmas in social work practice. A brief overview of several resources and frameworks are introduced (Allan Edward Barsky, Elaine Congress, Frank M. Loewenberg and Ralph Dolgoff, Marian Mattison, Frederic Reamer). A case study of an ethical dilemma will be provided and participants are afforded the opportunity to review its application to Reamer’s ethical decision making framework for evaluation. The second section will conclude with time for question and answers.

Class 3

What do you mean I'm not growing out of it? An introduction to neurodivergence and the multimodal approach through the lifespan

In this workshop participants will have an opportunity to learn about neurodivergence and gain a better understanding of the multimodal approach and best practice standards for working with clients presenting with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, and learning disabilities throughout the lifespan. In the first section, the workshop will include a historical overview of the neurodivergence and explain diagnoses such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, and learning disabilities.

The second section of the workshop will pivot to an overview of the multimodal approach. This section will explore treatment options and collaborations between the mental health clinician (psychologist, social worker, mental health counselor) and colleagues at different points across the lifespan. A case study of a neurodivergent client will be provided and participants are afforded the opportunity to review the multimodal approach together and make treatment recommendations. The second section will conclude with an overview / review of the webinar and time for question and answers.
